For those who know me, know that I love to hike. Why? Simple, it’s not only a great way to keep in shape, but to discover things that most would completely overlook. Of course depending on just where you hike that is. Myself, I find wooded trails that have loads of history to them. Maybe harboring some old abandoned trails that haven’t been used in many years. I’m one for discovering abandoned aspects.

So, yes the time of the year also seems to heighten my interest in veering of the main trails. With much of the foliage fallen to the ground, things that very harder to spot seem easier. So, while out there in the midst of deep wooded area, the trees seemingly endless all around, my mood becomes motivated in thinking that at one point in these very areas, was there an ancient people, native or not who worshipped the spirits who might roam these very woods?

Now, those who continue to know me, know that I have investigated the paranormal for close to 20 years now. Something that never strays far from even everyday life. Especially while hiking. I have found many areas along my travels along those trails that would highly suggest some sort of past activities towards some sort of worship. In fact it’s well know that in the 60’s into the 70’s there was heavy Occult activity in areas which I have hiked. One area in particular I call THE DEVIL’S MOUND/RING in which lays an almost perfect circled ring of ancient rocks that has one entrance/exit to it. There are both rumors of it being an old native burial mound, while others have said there was heavy Occult worship on the very same spot. To date I have found little or now evidence that suggests either ever happening. Though, I can tell you, there is an aura of strangeness that surrounds this very area. There trees that grow along the rim of rocks, grow and point inwards to the center of the formation. There is high readings of EMF inside the ring. Also, I have captured strange EVP in and around the formation.

Of course this doesn’t exactly suggests its paranormal in nature, but doesn’t completed discounts it either. More work needs to be done there. Still, this is only but one area along my hikes that bring out my curiosities especially during the weeks that lead up to Halloween.

Just today, while hiking along a route I have never travelled, I discovered an old abandoned road that it seems hadn’t been used in decades. Judging by the amount of growth along around and even on the old road, that much was evident. Though I travelled a fair distance along it, I didn’t follow it too the very end or where it may lead me too. That is very the next hike! Of course the reason I point this out is simple, with the big open fields the road lead me through, thoughts were. What might have happened in these fields years ago? Ancient ceremonies? We’ll see as I look forward to further discovering and around the perfect season!

There is something about an old abandoned farmhouse sitting alone surrounded by circle of old maple trees and miles of farm field. A long dirt road leading up to an old war torn bridge and barns that house some very interesting histories to them. Never really noticed while driving along the main country road at night, as it looks like any other farmhouse. The porch light on at night, but this light is not on indicating life is housed within it’s walls, but to ward off any curious beings from trespassing through it’s now abandoned empty shell. Upon a closer look, which I took a few years ago simply by stumbling upon it. The grass and weeds have begun it’s reclaim around the house, the many years of changing weathers have beaten it’s once armored walls. The painted wood porch has slowly began to sliver and peel, inviting hoards of leftover bee’s nests dried up in the corners.

Mid afternoon, I drove the car to about the midway point of the old dirt driveway, almost up to the old wood bridge. I didn’t trust it, didn’t look to healthy. I walked the rest of the way. The sun shining, the birds chirping and the fall winds were warm. I had originally wanted to take photos of the area as it intrigued me. First was to see if there was anyone still living there. As I approached the front steps and eventually up to the front door. I first peered into the the door’s big window. Nothing, no furniture, no living in sight. Then I circled the house house and discovered that the back kitchen door had been left open. Of course curiosity caught this cat’s eye’s and I entered. Still with photography my main focus, I took pictures as I made my way inside. As the door closed behind me, I noticed the dying beeping of an old smoke/fire alarm indicating the batteries were on their last legs. “Hello” I yelled out, “Is there anyone here?” I followed with. Nothing, just pure silence. The inside was in great shape, though there was  noticeable water damage beginning on areas of the walls. The paint was peeling all around, falling to the wood floor. There were two staircases, adjacent to one another  almost running under one another with only a room in between. I proceeded up the front stairs to the upper level and as I made my way to the top of the stairs, it started. It sounded like it was coming from the attic just above me, walking or movement. As I started to look around, it seem to follow me above. Though a bit unnerved, I though maybe just a huge animal, maybe a raccoon or something along those lines. Still as I wandered through the different rooms investigating the top floor’s maze of a layout, whatever was above in the attic continued to follow. Then I made my way to the one front room, just above just inside the door, the entrance to the attic. As I entered the room and looked up, I felt it’s presence there on the other side of that attic hatch. It was intelligent, seemingly big and now very silent. I snapped some final pictures and made my way back down to the main floor.

The whole time in there I noticed a very overwhelming sense of dread or negativity. Something that has been a common energy for all that have entered during our many investigations after my initial visit. Since then through researching it’s past, there have been a few details that have come to light through several avenues. Some of the more notable being the suicides of two women on two separate occasions. One from the antenna atop the roof and the other from somewhere within the walls of the main barn. In fact I remember the first visitation there and noticing the police tape still in one stairwell leading down to the lower stable of the barn.

Upon investigations, several unnerving EVPS have made their presence. One even calling my name as I was walking down the front stairwell. Chilling, though something about it’s presence draws us back. In fact just days ago, we visited and once again it seem to bring an mysterious atmospheric aura out. One that has along with the time of the year wanting to explore the unknown once again!

A few years ago, ok 2007! I was driving home in the early morning hours from work. Roughly 4am during a brisk fall day. The morning sun start hours away from dawning the sky. Driving along a stretch of country road with very little traffic that early. As I drove along, at one point I just happened to look up to the sky to the south situated roughly above Lake Ontario, I saw them. At first being tired and not really having exact baring on them other that they were above the tree line along the roadside. My mind simply situated them along a street on the other side of trees, street lights in the near distance. Then, I noticed they seemed to be moving in the same direction as I was driving. Odd, the street light theory was quickly throw out the window. Ok, now my interest turned from neat to very curious. Thankfully with the lack of traffic along route, I was able to peer over to them a little more often without worrying about oncoming cars etc. As my eyes investigated the strange lights in the distance more and more. They began to move in strange ways, odd patterns and unique speeds it seemed. I needed to find an area to pull over and analyze them more in-depth if possible.

I decided to turn at the night small intersection, do a u-turn and pull over to the soft shoulder of the road staring that particular area of the sky dead on. Sadly the only video camera I had to try and document these strange lights in the sky was my cell phone! The lights themselves were orange in color, bright and in the most cases moving slow in odd motions. Gaining in height in the sky to dropping until on of the three completely dropped from sight on the other side of the tree line. The other two continued to put on a show. At the same time my thinking was trying to place just what these unusual objects might be. Flares? Planes? Chinese Lanterns? Weather balloons? None of these fit the description at all. Each one of these defied logic when trying to explain.

As I filmed them, I started to think that perhaps I would be able to quickly make it home and grab my camcorder in time. It was possible considering that I was close to home. So, without thinking about it a longer, I drove off. Sadly, once making it home and grabbing my camcorder they had disappeared in the early morning sky. Though not without another witness! I colleague of mine in the realm of paranormal investigations had also spotted them on his way to work the very same morning. He took his inquiry further then I. Contacting the local airport, military and marine areas to see if there was any activity or training going that would explain these lights. Of course with vague they would all be in the usual, there was no information stating of any activities leading up to these lights. So, my question to this day is, “what are these strange orange orb like objects?”.

As it seems, these strange orange like orbs have been spotted around the world, and most importantly extensively in and around Lake Ontario over the past few years. Here’s an example of similar to what I saw. This footage captured it seems around exactly 10 years ago…

For more on the above video HERE .

Again, here are more recent reports of similar objects being spotted in and around Ontario. HERE

Here is he footage that I managed to grab on my cell phone the very night as described in the story above. The footage isn’t the best. When watching it, turn down the volume as I have my hazards on in the car and do get annoying quite fast. What you will see is the intersection directly in front of me and the traffic lights. Faintly in between the traffic lights you will see one of the orange lights slightly moving. Once again, the footage isn’t the great, but should get the idea…

Hey folks! Yes, it has been almost a year since last posting a blog entry here. Sorry, I’m rather terrible at keeping up with these blogs! None the less, I’m back and ready to breath life back into it! It seems that with the stead fast approaching of the fall, I’m really starting to get in the mood to explore! Urban exploration with photography and history in mind. Sure, my paranormal side is also in overdrive as well. Plenty of upcoming investigations with SOPS and of course the premiere of season 4 of Nocturnal Frequency Radio just this past Sunday evening. All of which are fueling my thirst for something adventurous.

Even though tis the season for unknown to beckon at the front door, I have non-the-less been busy exploring other avenues to share the delights of the paranormal world. Like many iPhone 4 owners/users, there are apps that one would certainly become addicted to, mine is Instagram. A simple little app that allows you to share piece of your daily life through pictures. Though at first I thought nothing of the app other then it was neat and well, didn’t really use it until a few months later after downloading it onto my phone. Once I started to get established, making loads of friends from around the world, an idea came into existence. I thought that I could raise the bar a bit, by this I would not only share a picture, but not just any picture. A still from a location that we (SOPS) had investigated in the past and along with it adding a story behind the picture. So, essentially basing them upon our investigations. Breaking them up into parts and guiding them like those old radio serials, leaving you in suspense with the ending of each part. This series become to be known as the #zombistream. It instantly caught on and has somewhat developed a cult like following. It also gave me that much needed kick in the ass to get my long talked about. but never actually started! So, with that said, I’d like to thank the great friends that I have met at Instagram and for giving me that much needed boost of confidence! The book is coming along slowly, but the main object here is that is has been started and I’m well into it.

An old interest of mine has come back and bit my in the butt once again. Urban Exploration! Fueled by my love of photography and the paranormal. The thought of exploring abandoned locations, of course already doing it though through the paranormal guise, I wanted to explore these places through the photographic eye as well. Of course not only abandoned locations, but historical ones as well. Many of which seem to have the best setting in the fall. So, I have found myself taking photos like never before. Both with my Nikon d-80, but with my iPhone 4 as well. Both of which take some rather interesting snaps in their own little different ways! I shall share some here in the near future.

Well, that about does it for this entry. I shall make more of effort to get more stories up here in the coming days. Until then..for those interested in when Nocturnal Frequency Radio is live, every Sunday night from 11pmEST till 1amEST. Some really interesting guests this year as well as some interesting additions to the show! Stay tuned for more..

Yes, something a little different from the paranormal, well on some levels. Something I tend to do every year to get myself ready for what I like to call my Christmas, Halloween! Anyhow, I will add to this list daily until Halloween with the latest in the countdown to numero uno! Hope you all enjoy!

#31(Oct 1) Bob Clark’s 1972 zombie outing called Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things. A film I first experience at the drive-in when I was a kid. Yes, leaving a traumatic engraving into my psyche!

#30 (Oct 2) Peter Cushing, John Carradine, Brooke Adams…need I say more! Shock Waves from director Ken Wiederhorn circa.1977

#29(Oct 3) No Michael Myers on a killing spree here, still this some what 3rd installment of the famed Halloween series simply because of it’s original title “Season of the Witch” already taken up. This still packs a very eerie and very atmospheric feel for Halloween and the days leading up to it!

#28(Oct4) SESSION 9 -Atmosphere, atmosphere and more atmosphere! Brad Anderson does a wonderful job thinly slicing the haunting of a mind or the haunting period. What better place to shoot this then in the old Danvers Lunatic Asylum!!!

For some, the story that I’m about to share with you all is mostly kept to the knowledge of a few in fear of ridicule. Something that not out of fear of such, I have also only kept this unusual experience to just a handful. Though recently, I have decided that this is something that needs to be put out there, and in my case, to be researched and investigated. Though I am about to share this story, I’m still keeping certain details to a minimum. Hoping that those out there who have truly experienced something similar will come forward and contact me with their tales as well.

Early fall 2003, I had left work around 2:30amEST as I always did once a week. Only having one car then, my wife would drop me off as she would carry on to her work on the nightshift as well. Those who know me, know my love of hiking. So it wasn’t a surprise that on these “short” nights as I would call them, I would walk home. That walk would usually take me a good two hours. Still, as long as I was dressed warm enough, had my “Walkman” and listened to Art Bell, things would fly by quickly.

Somewhere in the city of Mississuaga, Ontario along a long stretch of suburban road. The only lights mostly coming from the street lamps. I was approaching a long bridge which would take me over a huge valley that housed a river down below. As I approached this bridge there are a few things I wanted to point out about it to give you as best a picture of it as possible. It consisted of two separated bridges, one for each direction. As you approach it, there’s a grassy medium in between leading up to the bridges. At it’s end was a metal guard fence for safety from falling down underneath the bridges and down the valleyside. The bridges were not attached as they ran over the valley and river. A new view downwards if in a safe position of course.

As I made my way down this very quiet road towards the bridges. Something very quickly caught my eye. An animal had run out from the depths of the valley on all fours to the grassy medium that laid out like a rug in front of the bridges. I stopped my quick pace to a complete halt. Then something very unusually about this particular creature surprised me. It then stood up on it’s hind legs like a human and stared at me from a distance. That distance was probably a good 50 feet if that. My very thought was to try and read this animal or creature more like it because an animal didn’t compute here. At least one I’d seen before. Thinking, don’t run or this thing will chase you down. Just stand there, keep an eye on this thing and let it make the first move.

As this showdown played out, I tried to catalog the features of this creature. Though there were street lights, the creature was in a position where a bulk of the lighting was behind it. It’s frame was slim, it stood almost as tall as I, so just under 6 feet in height. It head was rounded and seemingly smaller in portion to the rest of it’s body. I could not see it’s eyes, as with many animals where their pupils would illuminate any light source back out, this didn’t.

All of these factors were running through my thoughts. Then as quickly as it came up onto it’s two hind legs it then again got down and ran off into the tree line on my side of the road. I quickly crossed the road and kept a close eye on the area in which the creature ran into while I walked on and then down the bridge to the otherside of the valley. It never reappeared.

As I mentioned earlier, that I have only shared this story to a handful and just recently opened it up to help me while I investigate this encounter. An article written about it a couple weeks back has helped by sparking new life into things. A couple more sightings have been reported. The interesting part of those is, that I never once shared the exact area where this happened and yet the two reports were from that surrounding area.

I have also recently spotted a photo, or artist rendering of another famous case from the 70’s in Toronto that was so close in details minus red eyes to what I had encountered that maybe this is much larger the anyone really knows. There is one thing for sure, o know what I seen and it wasn’t normal indeed. More soon as I ramp up my investigations into this strange creature!

Wow, it has been awhile since my last entry here. Sorry if it seemed as if I had dropped off the face of this Earth of ours. Things have been very hectic with many investigations and on going research into the paranormal. SOPS has been very active with carrying out on going research into two very historic and seemingly very active locations. Those being the Cherry Hill House located in Mississauga and the other being the Spruce Lane Farmhouse located inside the Bronte Conservation Area.

Both adventures have been very time consuming, but very interesting to say the least. Media coverage with both have been heavy, causing an influx of cases which we will be looking into down the road.

Outside SOPS, and in the world of online radio, my show Nocturnal Frequency Radio is also gearing into high speed with the start of season 3, which officially kicks off Wednesday, September 15th at it’s new time of 7pmEST till 9pmEST. Tons of great topics and guests lined up until early December! For more info go to the official site NOCTURNAL FREQUENCY RADIO .

I will be back soon with a rash of new blogs covering several topics. One that I’m looking into as this blog unfolds is called Japan’s Suicide Forest. The world’s second largest area for rates of suicide next to San Fran’s Golden Gate Bridge. The forest itself has always been linked to some of Japan’s oldest folklore. They believe that those who have died there, their very being is absorbed by the trees themselves. Housing their restless spirits to forever haunt the forest. More on this very soon!
